CONDADO DE ST. LOUIS, Mo.
ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. - Numerous residents in the southern part of St. Louis County have been grappling with flooding problems since the weekend, and the concern continues with more rainfall on Tuesday. One particular apartment complex's residents are especially worried.
Following the heavy rain on Mother's Day, the water levels have subsided at Cedar Creek Lodge Apartments. However, during the previous rainfall, many cars at the apartment complex were submerged, leading to concerns of a potential recurrence if there is further rainfall on Tuesday morning.
Over the weekend, hundreds of residents had their vehicles surrounded by water, and the front entrance of the apartment complex experienced flooding once again. In a short span of time, four inches of rain poured down.
Although residents of Cedar Creek Lodge Apartments commenced the cleanup process on Monday, the possibility of further rain on Tuesday morning has left them anxious about the potential for another flood. It has been noted that these apartments also faced flooding incidents in 2017 and 2019.
In preparation for a historic crest of the River Des Peres, residents were evacuated, as the river flooded numerous homes and businesses during those previous incidents.
Devon Empson, a resident of the apartment complex, shared photos depicting the scene and the impact of the floods. Recalling the sudden turn of events, Empson said, "One minute it was raining really hard, the next thing I know, nobody could get in and nobody could get out. I started knocking on all my neighbors' doors to let them know they probably should move their car. It was pretty frightening, this is the worst one I have seen, yet it was going very fast. We saw a guy drive into it and float."
