MASCOUTAH, Illinois — A cafeteria employee at Mascoutah High School has been charged with three counts of allegedly possessing child sexual abuse material, according to the Illinois Attorney General's Office.

The suspect was identified as Brian Favinger, 22, of Mascoutah. Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul said the investigation is part of the state's ongoing efforts to identify and prosecute individuals who download or share child sexual abuse material online.

Investigadores de la Fiscalía General, en coordinación con el Departamento de Policía de Mascoutah, ejecutaron una orden de cateo en la vivienda del acusado, donde presuntamente localizaron evidencia relacionada con el caso. Posteriormente, Favinger fue arrestado y trasladado a la cárcel del condado de St. Clair, donde permanece detenido mientras espera su audiencia de detención preventiva.

Investigators from the Attorney General's Office, working alongside the Mascoutah Police Department, executed a search warrant at the suspect's residence, where they allegedly found evidence connected to the investigation. Favinger was arrested and booked into the St. Clair County Jail, where he remains pending a pretrial detention hearing.

Cada uno de los tres cargos corresponde a un delito grave de Clase 2, castigado con una pena máxima de hasta siete años de prisión, aunque cualquier sentencia será determinada por el tribunal si existe una condena.

Each of the three charges is classified as a Class 2 felony, carrying a potential sentence of up to seven years in prison if convicted. Any sentence will ultimately be determined by the court.

El Fiscal General Kwame Raoul señaló que combatir la explotación infantil continúa siendo una prioridad para las autoridades.

Attorney General Kwame Raoul emphasized that fighting child exploitation remains a top priority.

"It is vital that we continue to hold individuals who download and trade these heinous images and videos accountable because they leave survivors and their families with lifelong trauma," Raoul said.

He added that the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force will continue partnering with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies to identify and stop child exploitation offenders.

Since 2019, the task force has received more than 82,900 CyberTips and participated in over 1,250 arrests involving sexual predators. It has also provided internet safety education to more than one million parents, teachers and students.
