U.S. Education Department Investigates SLU School of Medicine Over Admissions Practices
El U.S. Department of Education abrió una investigación bajo el Título VI contra la Saint Louis University School of Medicine por presunta discriminación racial en su proceso de admisión. La investigación forma parte de cinco casos anunciados por la Oficina de Derechos Civiles del departamento el 22 de julio de 2026.
The U.S. Department of Education has opened a Title VI investigation into the Saint Louis University School of Medicine over allegations of racial discrimination in its admissions process. The investigation is one of five announced by the department's Office for Civil Rights on July 22, 2026.
La investigación analizará si la facultad incumplió el Título VI de la Ley de Derechos Civiles de 1964, que prohíbe la discriminación por motivos de raza, color u origen nacional en
instituciones que reciben fondos federales. Otras cuatro facultades de medicina también están siendo investigadas: la Facultad de Medicina Geisel de Dartmouth College, la Facultad de Medicina Brody de la Universidad de East Carolina, la Universidad Western de Ciencias de la Salud y la Facultad de Medicina Osteopática de la Universidad William Carey.
The investigation will examine whether the medical school violated Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits discrimination based on race, color, or national origin in institutions receiving federal funding. Four other medical schools are also under review: the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College, the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University, Western University of Health Sciences, and the William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Las autoridades federales indicaron que las investigaciones se iniciaron tras las órdenes ejecutivas firmadas por el presidente Donald Trump en 2025, las cuales instruyen a las
agencias federales a reforzar la supervisión de las iniciativas de diversidad, equidad e inclusión, así como de las prácticas basadas en la raza dentro de los programas educativos.
Federal officials said the investigations follow executive orders signed by President Donald Trump in 2025 directing agencies to increase oversight of diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives and race-based practices in education.
Las investigaciones serán realizadas de manera conjunta por la Oficina de Derechos Civiles del Departamento de Educación, la U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights y la U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Division. La apertura de una investigación no significa que se haya determinado la existencia de alguna violación, y las instituciones tendrán la oportunidad de responder durante el proceso.
The investigations will be conducted jointly by the Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights, and the U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Division. The opening of an investigation does not indicate that any violations have been found, and the schools will have the opportunity to respond as the review proceeds.
