The Missouri History Museum will be renamed the St. Louis History Museum
El Missouri History Museum cambiará oficialmente de nombre a partir del próximo otoño y pasará a llamarse St. Louis History Museum. El cambio fue anunciado después de que la Junta Directiva de la Missouri Historical Society aprobara la nueva denominación de manera unánime. Jody Sowell, presidente y director ejecutivo de la sociedad histórica, explicó que el nuevo nombre refleja mejor la misión de la institución y su compromiso con la ciudad de St. Louis.
The Missouri History Museum will officially change its name starting next fall and will be renamed the St. Louis History Museum. The change was announced after the Missouri
Historical Society's Board of Directors unanimously approved the new name. Jody Sowell, president and CEO of the historical society, explained that the new name better reflects the institution's mission and its commitment to the city of St. Louis.

Although its current name refers to all of Missouri, the museum located in Forest Park has historically focused on the history of St. Louis. Among its exhibits is one dedicated to the 1904 World's Fair, as well as "Collected," an exhibition that periodically presents different objects from the museum's collection. On October 3, it will also open "St. Louis at Bat: 100 Moments in
Baseball History," an exhibit that will cover the history of baseball in St. Louis, from local fields to the World Series.

According to Sowell, many visitors to the museum and even some residents already informally refer to it as the St. Louis History Museum because of its focus. The institution is part of the Missouri Historical Society, which also runs the Soldiers Memorial in downtown St. Louis and the Library & Research Center located on the west side of the city, across from Forest Park.

The Missouri Historical Society was founded in 1866 and the museum's current building was constructed in 1913 using proceeds related to the 1904 World's Fair. It originally functioned as a memorial to Thomas Jefferson and was known as the Jefferson Memorial until 1987, when the institution sought to incorporate itself into the Zoo Museum District, which currently provides funding through taxes. Even during that process, there was already some confusion about which name should be used. The upcoming change seeks to make the museum's name more directly reflect its link to St. Louis' history.
