El día de hoy recordamos una de las celebraciones más emotivas a la que muchos hayan podido acudir, organizada por el Grupo de Líderes Hispanos de St. Louis, el 10 de marzo de 2018, donde se reconoció la trayectoria y contribución de Jaime Torres a la comunidad hispana de esta ciudad, de la que ha sido pilar. 

Con tantos logros como amigos. Jaime fue considerado una fuerza vital en la comunidad a la que ha apoyado y en la que ha participado por muchos años.

Jaime Torres, quién fue una figura muy sobresaliente y reconocida dentro de la comunidad hispana de St. Louis, se mostró muy emocionado, sorprendido y agradecido al ver un salón repleto de amigos, colegas y familiares, todos reunidos para brindarle un merecido reconocimiento. Varios miembros de su familia conspiraron para llegar de sorpresa, viajando de diversos países, con tal de no perderse la celebración y mostrar su aprecio a Jaime.

Jaime Torres, a lo largo de los años, participó activamente como fundador, presidente, funcionario o miembro activo de diferentes organizaciones como:

Hispanic Capitol Day at Jefferson City

Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan St. Louis

Hispanic Leaders Group of Greater St. Louis

Hispanic Political Action Committee

Puerto Rican Society

Sirvió por másIMG::imagenes-subidas/323278697-jaime torres 2 JPG.jpg\" style=\"width: 50%; float: left;\" class=\"note-float-left\"> de 30 años en la Fuerza Aérea de los Estados Unidos (USAF) llegando al rango de Teniente Coronel. Durante la guerra de Vietnam, fue asignado al mando 13 de la Fuerza Aérea en la base aérea de Clark (AFB) en las Filipinas. Como Jefe de la sección de municiones para el aérea de combate de Vietnam, cumplió con gran eficacia las operaciones bajo su mando.

Como Asistente de Profesor de Estudios Aeronáuticos en la Universidad de Puerto Rico, fue reconocido como el reclutador del año con un aumento sin precedente del 500% en matriculación.

Comandó dos escuadrones de la USAF aumentando la calificación desde marginal a excelente. Finalizó su tiempo en le Fuerza Aérea como líder en una delegación que viajó a Angola en África Occidental como parte de los acuerdos de paz entre los bandos beligerantes en ese país.

Después de su jubilación, fue invitado por Harris-Stowe State College para participar en el Programa del Departamento de Educación llamado Educational Talent Search.

Fue coordinador de la División de Missouri de Servicios para Jóvenes, del Programa REACH. Un programa relacionado con jóvenes en riesgo. Fue reconocido por la Asociación de Educadores Internacionales (NAFSA) como Nuevo Educador Internacional sobresaliente para 1997.

Desarrolló y administró más de dieciséis programas de educación internacional.  Sus programas de entrenamiento fueron únicos y su modelo reconocido como el más innovador e impactante en los países involucrados.

Posteriormente fue reclutado y nombrado por St. Louis Community College como Director de Educación Internacional; el primer hispano en esa posición.

En el 2011, se le otorgó el Premio de Liderazgo de Herencia Hispana.  A lo largo de los años, fueron reconocidos sus logros y contribuciones a nuestra comunidad por múltiples empresas, organizaciones cívicas y sociales.

El talento de organización y su capacidad de liderazgo son algunas de sus cualidades más reconocidas por aquellos que lo conocían bien. También por su dedicación a las causas relacionadas con estudiantes a las jóvenes generaciones a las que invita a trabajar duro para salir adelante. La Sociedad Puertorriqueña y el Grupo de Líderes Hispanos anunciaron la formación de becas estudiantiles que llevarán su nombre.

Este fue Jaime Torres, nuestro amigo, un icono de servicio y entrega. La comunidad hispana se encuentra realmente agradecida por la herencia que nos ha dejado.

Jaime Torres was born on December 22, 1943 in Playa Ponce, Puerto Rico, and has passed away this morning, August 26, 2022, at his home in Florida.

Today we remember one of the most emotional celebrations that many have been able to attend. Organized by the Hispanic Leaders Group of St. Louis on March 10, 2018, where his career, and contribution to the Hispanic community of the city of which he has been a pillar was recognized.

Jaime, with as many achievements as friends was considered a vital force in the community he has supported and participated in for many years.

Jaime Torres, who was a very outstanding and recognized figure within the Hispanic community of St. Louis, was very moved, surprised and grateful to see a room full of friends, colleagues and family, all gathered to give him a well-deserved recognition. Several members of his family conspired to arrive as a surprise, traveling from different countries, in order to don"t miss the celebration and show their appreciation to Jaime.

Jaime Torres, over the years, has actively participated as founder, president, official or active member of different organizations such as:

During the Vietnam War, he was assigned to the 13th Air Force Command at Clark Air Base (AFB) in the Philippines. As Chief of the Munitions Section for the Vietnam Warfighting Air Force, he performed operations under his command with great effectiveness.

As an Assistant Professor of Aeronautical Studies at the University of Puerto Rico, he was recognized as the recruiter of the year with an unprecedented 500% increase in enrollment.

He commanded two USAF squadrons raising the rating from marginal to excellent. He finished his time in the Air Force as the leader of a delegation that traveled to Angola in West Africa as part of the peace accords between the warring sides in that country.

After his retirement, he was invited by Harris-Stowe State College to participate in the Department of Education"s Educational Talent Search Program.

He was the coordinator of the Missouri Division of Youth Services, REACH Program. A program related to youth at risk. He was recognized by the Association of International Educators (NAFSA) as an Outstanding New International Educator for 1997.

He developed and managed more than sixteen international education programs. His training programs were unique, and his model recognized as the most innovative and impactful in the countries involved.

He was subsequently recruited and appointed by St. Louis Community College as Director of International Education; he the first Hispanic in that position.

In 2011, he was presented with the Hispanic Heritage Leadership Award. Over the years, his achievements and contributions to our community have been recognized by multiple business, civic and social organizations.

Also, for his dedication to causes related to students and the young generations whom he invites to work hard to get ahead. The Puerto Rican Society and the Hispanic Leaders Group announced the formation of student scholarships that will bear his name.

That was Jaime Torres, our friend, an icon of service and delivery. The Hispanic community is truly grateful for the heritage that he has left us.
