According to court documents, witnesses helped identify a suspicious man who had been at the spa shortly before the fire. Investigators later used phone records and surveillance footage to connect Hanks to the scene. Federal agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) located him in St. Louis and took him into custody without incident.
