ST. LOUIS, Missouri — The St. Louis Regional Racial Healing + Justice Fund awarded $70,000 in crisis response grants to seven community organizations leading recovery efforts following the devastating May 16, 2025 EF3 tornado in North St. Louis.

La Junta de Gobernanza Comunitaria (CGB) del fondo, en colaboración con Forward Through Ferguson (FTF), seleccionó organizaciones que han demostrado liderazgo excepcional en justicia restaurativa, organización comunitaria y cambios sistémicos liderados por la comunidad.

The Fund’s Community Governance Board (CGB), in partnership with Forward Through Ferguson (FTF), selected organizations that demonstrated exceptional leadership in healing justice, community organizing, and community-led systemic change.

Las organizaciones beneficiadas son: 314Oasis, 4theVille, Action St. Louis, Black Healers Collective, Dream Builders for Equity, Chosen For Change y St. James AME Church.

Dr. Shonda Ambers-Phillips, a member of the Community Governance Board, noted that many families are still facing rebuilding and stability challenges nearly one year after the natural disaster.

“Estamos invirtiendo intencionalmente en organizaciones cuya labor ha sido transformadora para residentes afroamericanos y latinos en las áreas más afectadas, comunidades que ya enfrentaban inequidades sistémicas antes de la tormenta”, expresó Ambers-Phillips.

“We are intentionally investing in organizations whose work has been transformative for Black and brown residents in the hardest-hit areas, communities that were already facing systemic inequities before the storm,” Ambers-Phillips said.

Las subvenciones flexibles permitirán cubrir costos operativos, fortalecer programas existentes y responder rápidamente a las necesidades urgentes de las comunidades afectadas.

The flexible grants will help cover operational costs, strengthen existing programs, and allow organizations to respond quickly to urgent community needs.

Community leaders emphasized that these organizations played a crucial role in coordinating large-scale cleanups, distributing aid, and providing emotional support, especially amid insufficient governmental assistance.

Michael Brown Sr. and Cal Brown, co-founders of Chosen For Change, stated that the fund strengthens their mission to provide holistic support to families experiencing unimaginable loss.

“This support turns pain into purpose and gives communities the tools to heal and move forward,” the community leaders shared.
