During a television interview, Noem initially asserted that her department had not used chemical agents against protests related to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations. However, after the release of videos showing the use of these chemicals on at least four occasions, the official changed her story, stating that such substances are only used "when there is violence and it is necessary to restore order to protect public safety."
