Estamos llegando a las semanas definitivas de un año cargado de procesos electorales en diversas naciones y, como sucede cada vez que las urnas se abren, somos testigos de campañas feroces, discursos polarizados, debates interminables y una atmósfera social que parece agotar el espíritu de cualquiera.

We are reaching the decisive weeks of a year packed with elections across various nations, and—as happens whenever the polls open—we are witnessing fierce campaigns, polarized rhetoric, endless debates, and a social atmosphere that seems to exhaust the spirit.

Durante mis años como periodista en CNN, tuve el privilegio de sentarme frente a frente con presidentes, líderes mundiales y grandes personalidades de la política y desde esa posición aprendí  a leer los hilos del poder, por eso,  mientras analizaba los últimos acontecimientos informativos de esta temporada electoral, recordaba que detrás de las estrategias de Estado hay un motor invisible y definitivo y es el hecho de que, en el fondo, cada ciudadano está atravesando su propia elección interior.

During my years as a journalist at CNN, I had the privilege of sitting face-to-face with presidents, world leaders, and major political figures. From that vantage point, I learned to read the threads of power; that is why, while analyzing the latest news from this election season, I was reminded that behind state strategies lies an invisible yet definitive driving force: the fact that, deep down, every citizen is navigating their own internal choice.

Hay etapas en la historia de un país donde sentimos que avanzamos con facilidad y otras, como el panorama actual, donde cada decisión democrática parece exigir una madurez y una fuerza que no sabíamos que teníamos. Existen momentos donde el cuerpo social y el espíritu de los electores se cansan al mismo tiempo debido a la división y, aun así, algo dentro de nosotros insiste en seguir buscando la esperanza

There are stages in a country's history when we feel we are moving forward with ease, and others—like the current landscape—where every democratic decision seems to demand a level of maturity and strength we didn't know we possessed. There are moments when the collective body and the spirit of the electorate grow weary in unison due to division, yet something within us insists on continuing to seek hope.

Habiendo entrevistado por tanto tiempo a quienes toman las decisiones que mueven al mundo, entendí que ninguna sociedad sostiene un rumbo largo y próspero únicamente desde la efervescencia y la retórica del momento y llega un punto donde el entusiasmo de las promesas desaparece y lo único que queda es la decisión profunda de continuar construyendo desde la ética cotidiana y la responsabilidad individual.

Having spent so much time interviewing the decision-makers who shape the world, I came to understand that no society maintains a long, prosperous course based solely on the fervor and rhetoric of the moment. Eventually, the excitement of campaign promises fades, and all that remains is the profound decision to keep building through everyday ethics and individual responsibility.

Y eso también ocurre en la vida.

The same holds true in life.

Hay personas atravesando transformaciones silenciosas, cambios inesperados en sus entornos, crisis emocionales o procesos de reconstrucción personal que ningún analista político alcanza a dimensionar, hombres y mujeres que intentan mantener la calma mientras internamente luchan por no rendirse a la apatía y siguen apostando por la integridad, aun cuando sienten que la montaña de la polarización que tienen enfrente parece demasiado grande.

There are people undergoing quiet transformations, unexpected environmental shifts, emotional crises, or processes of personal rebuilding that no political analyst could fully grasp—men and women trying to remain calm while internally fighting not to succumb to apathy, continuing to commit to integrity even when the mountain of polarization before them seems insurmountable.

En mi carrera he visto cómo el foco público celebra únicamente al candidato ganador, pero pocas veces honra la resistencia cotidiana de la gente, de quienes siguen adelante trabajando con honestidad en medio de la incertidumbre. La democracia tiene además una paradoja maravillosa: aunque cada individuo deposita su voto de forma estrictamente solitaria, nadie llega lejos completamente solo, siempre se necesita de la empatía y del respeto a la diferencia para sostener el recorrido.

Throughout my career, I have seen how the public spotlight celebrates only the winning candidate, yet rarely honors the everyday resilience of ordinary people—those who press on, working honestly amidst uncertainty. Democracy also holds a wonderful paradox: although each individual casts their vote in strict solitude, no one gets far entirely alone; empathy and respect for difference are always needed to sustain the journey.

Tal vez, la vida también intenta enseñarnos que la verdadera fortaleza no consiste en imponer una visión sin escuchar al otro, sino en permitirnos acompañar y ser acompañados en nuestras diferencias.

Perhaps life is also trying to teach us that true strength lies not in imposing a vision without listening to others, but in allowing ourselves to accompany—and be accompanied by—one another amidst our differences.

Con el tiempo comprendemos que las elecciones más importantes no ocurren en una urna de votación, sino dentro de nuestra propia conciencia. Son esos pensamientos de hostilidad que debemos transformar en reconciliación, esos miedos al futuro que necesitamos atravesar con fe y esas versiones antiguas de intolerancia que debemos dejar atrás para seguir evolucionando. Porque, al final, cada proceso colectivo termina revelándonos que nunca volvemos a ser los mismos después de elegir la paz interior que un día creíamos imposible.

In time, we come to understand that the most important choices do not take place at the ballot box, but within our own conscience. It is those thoughts of hostility we must transform into reconciliation, those fears of the future we need to face with faith, and those old forms of intolerance we must leave behind in order to keep evolving. For, in the end, every collective process reveals that we are never the same again after choosing an inner peace we once believed impossible.

Tal vez la vida no nos está preguntando qué partido político gana una contienda, sino cuánto amor, conciencia y verdad somos capaces de descubrir y aportar mientras atravesamos el recorrido de vivir en sociedad.

Perhaps life is not asking us which political party wins a contest, but rather how much love, awareness, and truth we are capable of discovering and contributing as we journey through life in society.
