Es un “infantilismo” creer que embargo petrolero es la causa de la crisis en Cuba, afirma principal diario opositor

It is “childish” to believe that the oil embargo is the cause of Cuba’s collapse, says the main opposition newspaper

La prosperidad de Cuba “no depende del cese de las presiones externas”, sino de las “presiones internas de un régimen corrupto sobre un pueblo al cual empobrece”, afirmó este viernes “Diario de Cuba” en un editorial.

Cuba's prosperity "does not depend on the cessation of external pressures," but rather on "the internal pressures of a corrupt regime on a people it impoverishes," stated Diario de Cuba in an editorial this Friday.

El principal periódico cubano en el exilio calificó de “infantilismo” la creencia de una parte de la comunidad internacional sobre este tema y aseguró que, por discutible que sea el embargo petrolero y sus consecuencias, “resulta inobjetable la absoluta responsabilidad del modelo comunista en la destrucción del país”.

The leading Cuban newspaper in exile described as "childish" the belief held by a segment of the international community on this issue and asserted that, however debatable the oil embargo and its consequences may be, "the absolute responsibility of the communist model in the destruction of the country is undeniable."

“Resulta por ello lamentable que se intente mostrar el problema sin mencionar las causas reales, abundando en la narrativa oficial del régimen, que asegura que las impresionantes montañas de basura sin recoger, la cocción con carbón o leña o la falta de transporte son responsabilidad del embargo petrolero decretado por EEUU recientemente”, expone el editorial.

"It is therefore regrettable that attempts are being made to portray the problem without mentioning the real causes, instead relying on the regime's official narrative, which claims that the impressive mountains of uncollected garbage, cooking with charcoal or firewood, and the lack of transportation are the responsibility of the oil embargo recently imposed by the United States," the editorial states.

Bajo el título “El embargo petrolero y la basura en La Habana”, abunda en ejemplos como el de la “catástrofe demográfica que atraviesa la Isla”, con dos millones de habitantes menos, que “se ha agudizado de forma sostenida en el último cuatrienio”; la caída del PIB un 11% en los últimos cinco años; la destrucción de hospitales, el desplome de la calidad formativa de profesionales y la falta de insumos, que “llevan décadas produciéndose”.

Under the title “The Oil Embargo and the Garbage in Havana,” the editorial abounds with examples such as the “demographic catastrophe the island is experiencing,” with two million fewer inhabitants, a situation that “has steadily worsened over the last four years”; the 11% drop in GDP over the last five years; the destruction of hospitals; the collapse in the quality of professional training; and the lack of supplies, which “have been ongoing for decades.”

El editorial recuerda que el embargo “permite la compra de alimentos y medicinas en EEUU y no impide el comercio de la Isla con el resto del mundo”, por lo que “la lógica indica que nada de lo apuntado hasta aquí es consecuencia suya”.

The editorial points out that the embargo “allows the purchase of food and medicine in the US and does not impede the island’s trade with the rest of the world,” so “logic dictates that none of what has been mentioned so far is a consequence of it.”

Afirma que el reciente embargo petrolero “influye en el estado de cosas y alarma desde el punto de vista humanitario, pero no puede negarse con ella la responsabilidad del sistema político y económico de Cuba —renuente a cambios de calado— en la miseria absoluta del país”.

It asserts that the recent oil embargo “influences the current state of affairs and is alarming from a humanitarian perspective, but this cannot negate the responsibility of Cuba’s political and economic system—resistant to profound changes—for the country’s abject poverty.”

“Diario de Cuba”, con sede en Madrid (España), considera que la actual situación en la isla “ha permitido el regreso de medios, gobiernos y ONG internacionales a una realidad de la que jamás debieron apartar la mirada”, pero reprocha que “la tragedia de los cubanos ha estado invisibilizada durante décadas”.

“Diario de Cuba”, based in Madrid (Spain), believes that the current situation on the island “has allowed the return of international media, governments and NGOs to a reality from which they should never have turned their gaze away”, but criticizes that “the tragedy of the Cubans has been invisible for decades”.
