Israel at an Impasse: The Spectacular Performance of the “Arab Parties (sic),” the Military Factor, and Four Scenarios (Including the Trump Factor)

There is a factor that has not been properly analyzed and that carries considerable weight in Israel: the military factor.

Both the approach and the arithmetic analysis of the final results of the elections in Israel depend greatly on the perspective from which they are viewed and on the assessment of the performance of all the parties involved. Taken together, these factors clearly define the existence of a political impasse in which the new party of retired General Gadi Eisenkot, together with other anti-Netanyahu parties, secured second place numerically with 48 seats, while Netanyahu’s Likud party—with its Talmudic allies Ben Gvir, Minister of National Security, and Bezalel Smotrich, Minister of Finance—obtained 53 seats.

These figures would be incomplete without taking into account the spectacular performance of the “Arab parties,” which have so far obtained 19 seats!

Strictly speaking, in arithmetic terms, Netanyahu’s current governing bloc lost 15 seats, falling from its previous majority of 68 to its current 53.

The Likud party led by Netanyahu accused the “Arab parties” of “stealing the election,” without any evidence, as reported by the Israeli newspaper Haaretz.

Many may wonder how “Arab parties” exist in Israel. On this occasion, with a record voter turnout of 77%, not seen in Israel for at least two decades, they represent the 21% of the population—approximately 2 million people—who have the right to vote. Most are Muslim, with a Christian minority and members of the Druze sect (who serve in the Israeli army). They are independent of the Palestinians in Gaza, where Hamas predominates, and of the West Bank, where the old PLO of Yasser Arafat prevails, now under the Palestinian Authority of Mahmoud Abbas.

The two main lists in which Arab citizens of Israel participated—some arriving at the polls in a folkloric manner on camels and mules—are: 1-Ra’am (United Arab List), headed by Mansour Abbas, and 2-The Joint List, an alliance of three parties: Hadash, Ta’al, and Balad.

Neither General Eisenkot nor Netanyahu has the majority of 61 seats out of the total 120 unless either one forms an alliance with the “Arab parties,” which currently stand at 19 seats, with 15% of the votes still to be reported.

The “Arab parties” have expressed their intention to join the anti-Netanyahu bloc in order to exclude him from power, while the Netanyahu bloc makes no secret of its contempt for such an important 19-seat bloc, which is larger than the 13 seats held by Ben Gvir’s Talmudic Otzma Yehudit, with 7 seats, and his ally Smotrich’s Religious Zionism party, with 6 seats.

There is a factor that has not been properly analyzed and that carries considerable weight in Israel: the military factor. Since October 7, 2023, the military establishment has had—and continues to have—serious disagreements with Prime Minister Netanyahu.

Indeed, faced with his declining poll numbers, Netanyahu sought a war against Iran to improve his electoral standing, but was prevented from doing so by Israeli army Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir, according to CNN, The New York Times, The Times of Israel, and The Jerusalem Post.

So far, there are three high-ranking military figures: candidate Eisenkot and Eyal Zamir—supported by Major General and Air Force Commander Omer Tishler—who are openly opposing Netanyahu in one way or another.

As if that were not enough, former General Yair Golan, former Deputy Chief of Staff of the Israeli army—elected leader of the former Labor Party, renamed “The Democrats,” with 8 seats—commented that they could form “a majority of 65 seats and an opportunity to form an alliance with the Israeli Arabs.”

I insist: so far, there are four very high-ranking military figures who are expressing their opposition to Netanyahu’s warlike whims.

There is more: it turns out that Ashkenazi Yoav Segalovich (YS), a former military officer (sic!) and former senior Israeli police official (sic), allied himself in these elections with Mansour Abbas, leader of the United Arab List Ra’am.

Yoav Segalovich was a paratrooper in the Israeli army, commander of the Investigations and Intelligence Division of the Israel Police, and founded the Lahav 433 unit. He has been dubbed a “super-cop.”

As I stated today in my Wednesday interview with Spain’s NegociosTV, the military factor carries considerable weight and is highly likely to shape the dynamics of the three scenarios currently being considered, along with an additional one that, in my view, will depend greatly on the outcome of the November 3 elections in the United States.

Van los 3 ESCENARIOS:

Here are the 3 SCENARIOS:

1-A National Unity Government between Netanyahu and Eisenkot, without the “Arab parties,” which President Herzog is seeking because he does not want another election. Apparently, former General Eisenkot has a veto against the Talmudic figures Ben Gvir and Smotrich. Netanyahu also has a veto against the “Arab parties.”

2-A minority government led by former General Eisenkot, without Netanyahu, which would become a majority government with the reluctant support of the “Arab parties” and former police commander Yoav Segalovich; and

3-New elections in approximately three months, after the constitutional deadlines for forming a government have expired, as the Likud party is already demanding—which would leave open the possibility of a war against Iran during Netanyahu’s chilling interim period.

A FOURTH SCENARIO is being circulated by Ynet, the digital portal of the popular newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth—the most visited news website in Israel and one of the most influential—which presents what it claims is “Trump’s vision for Israel: 3 prime ministers and one government.” This seems far-fetched, and I prefer not to comment on it now, while awaiting the outcome of next week’s elections in the United States.
