Jill Stein Seeks Jury Trial in Case Related to Pro-Palestinian Protest in WashU

Jill Stein, candidata presidencial del Partido Verde en 2012, 2016 y 2024, solicitó un juicio por jurado por los cargos relacionados con una protesta propalestina realizada en Washington University en abril de 2024. Jill Stein, the Green Party's presidential candidate in 2012, 2016 and 2024, has requested a jury trial on charges related to a pro-Palestinian protest held at Washington University in April 2024. Stein appeared again before a St. Louis judge on Monday, after an earlier hearing temporarily prompted an arrest warrant for her absence.

During a brief hearing before Judge Karma Johnson, Stein and her attorney, Joe Welch, formally requested that the case be brought before a jury. The judge scheduled a new hearing for Oct. 29. Stein, 76, is one of two defendants among the roughly 100 arrested during the April 27, 2024, police raid, when protesters were trying to set up camp on campus.

the facts of the case before trial. He also contends that the protest was peaceful and that the police intervention occurred unexpectedly.

The case also features a dispute over the jurisdiction where the charges were originally filed. St. Louis County prosecutors later dropped the case by determining that it should be moved to the city, as Stein was arrested at a portion of WashU's Danforth campus located within the St. Louis boundaries. Stein's attorney filed a motion to dismiss the charges, arguing that county prosecutors did not have authority to file them and that, for that reason, the case should be considered invalid. The next hearing is scheduled for Oct. 29.
