Los Angeles Becomes the Biggest Hub for Ibero-American Audiovisual Industry

La ciudad de Los Ángeles se convirtió en el mayor punto de encuentro del audiovisual iberoamericano para celebrar el peso cada vez mayor del cine de la región en la Gala de los Oscar.

The city of Los Angeles became the biggest hub for the Ibero-American audiovisual industry to celebrate the growing impact of the region’s cinema at the Oscars Gala.

En la gran noche de la industria audiovisual estadounidense, la entidad de gestión EGEDA celebró un evento para rendir tributo a “O Agente Secreto”, coproducción internacional entre CinemaScópio Produções (Brasil), MK Productions (Francia), One Two Films (Alemania) y Lemming Film (Países Bajos), y a “Sirât”, película original Movistar Plus, producida en colaboración con Filmes da Ermida, El Deseo, Uri Films y 4a4 Productions.

On the big night of the U.S. audiovisual industry, management entity EGEDA hosted an event to honor “O Agente Secreto,” an international co-production between CinemaScópio Produções (Brazil), MK Productions (France), One Two Films (Germany), and Lemming Film (Netherlands), and “Sirât,” an original Movistar Plus film produced in collaboration with Filmes da Ermida, El Deseo, Uri Films, and 4a4 Productions.

Ambas obras iberoamericanas estuvieron nominadas en la presente edición. “O Agente Secreto” agrupó las nominaciones a Mejor Película Internacional, Mejor Película, Mejor Actor Principal para Wagner Moura y Mejor Dirección de Casting para Gabriel Domingues; mientras que “Sirât” hizo lo propio con las nominaciones a Mejor Película Internacional y Mejor Sonido para Laia Casanovas, Amanda Villavieja y Yasmina Praderas. El mexicano José Antonio García fue nominado al Mejor Sonido por “One Battle After Another”.

Both Ibero-American works were nominated this year. “O Agente Secreto” received nominations for Best International Film, Best Film, Best Lead Actor for Wagner Moura, and Best Casting Direction for Gabriel Domingues; while “Sirât” earned nominations for Best International Film and Best Sound for Laia Casanovas, Amanda Villavieja, and Yasmina Praderas. Mexican José Antonio García was nominated for Best Sound for “One Battle After Another.”

A lo largo de la noche, más de 800 profesionales de la industria y prensa especializada asistieron a la cita en el espacio The Lillian, de Los Ángeles, con el objetivo de reconocer y celebrar el creciente interés internacional por las filmografías iberoamericanas.

Throughout the evening, over 800 industry professionals and specialized press attended the event at The Lillian in Los Angeles, with the aim of recognizing and celebrating the growing international interest in Ibero-American filmographies.

En palabras del director de “Sirât”, Oliver Laxe: “Esto es un éxito de todos. Ojalá el año que viene vengan más. La Academia de Hollywood me ha abrazado mucho y me he sentido muy querido”.

In the words of “Sirât” director Oliver Laxe: “This is a success for everyone. Hopefully more will come next year. The Hollywood Academy has embraced me, and I have felt very welcomed.”

Siguiendo el ejemplo de ediciones anteriores, el encuentro organizado por EGEDA contó con el estrecho apoyo y presencia del Ministerio de Cultura de España, a través del Instituto de la Cinematografía y de las Artes Audiovisuales (ICAA). También se unieron el ICEX, España Exportación e Inversiones/Audiovisual from Spain, Movistar Plus+, la Academia de Cine de España, la Generalitat de Catalunya y Beverly Hilton.

Following previous editions, the EGEDA-organized gathering was strongly supported by the Spanish Ministry of Culture through the Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts (ICAA). ICEX, España Exportación e Inversiones/Audiovisual from Spain, Movistar Plus+, the Spanish Film Academy, the Generalitat de Catalunya, and Beverly Hilton also joined.
