Historic 1904 World's Fair Mural to Be Restored in Downtown St. Louis
Los trabajos de restauración del emblemático mural inspirado en la Feria Mundial de 1904 comenzarán el próximo 10 de agosto como parte de un ambicioso proyecto de renovación del histórico edificio Edison Brothers, ubicado frente a la Interestatal 64, en el centro de St. Louis.
Restoration work on the iconic mural inspired by the 1904 World's Fair will begin on August 10 as part of an ambitious renovation project of the historic Edison Brothers building, located off Interstate 64, in downtown St. Louis.
La empresa Midas Hospitality está invirtiendo 81 millones de dólares para transformar el edificio en un nuevo hotel Sheraton, incorporando modernas amenidades y espacios comerciales a nivel de calle. El proyecto también contempla la restauración completa del
mural, considerado uno de los símbolos visuales más reconocibles para quienes llegan al centro de la ciudad.
Midas Hospitality is investing $81 million to transform the building into a new Sheraton hotel, incorporating modern amenities and street-level retail spaces. The project also includes the complete restoration of the mural, considered one of the most recognizable visual symbols for those who arrive in the city center.
La obra fue creada en 1984 por el artista Richard Haas, quien utilizó la técnica del trampantojo para representar escenas inspiradas en la Exposición Universal de 1904. El mural fue encargado por la entonces empresa Edison Brothers Stores y requirió incluso la modificación de la fachada del edificio para servir como un enorme lienzo.
The work was created in 1984 by artist Richard Haas, who used the trompe l'oeil technique to depict scenes inspired by the 1904 World's Fair. The mural was commissioned by the then company Edison Brothers Stores and even required the modification of the building's façade to serve as a huge canvas.
La restauración será coordinada por On The Wall Productions y comenzará en el lado norte del edificio, donde un equipo de tres artistas especializados trabajará en la recuperación de los detalles originales. Las labores en los lados sur y oeste, que incluyen representaciones de la Paz y de la estatua Apoteosis de San Luis ubicada en Forest Park, continuarán durante el próximo año.
The restoration will be coordinated by On The Wall Productions and will begin on the north side of the building, where a team of three specialized artists will work on recovering the original details. Work on the south and west sides, which includes representations of Peace and the Apotheosis of St. Louis statue located in Forest Park, will continue over the next year.
