St. Louis CITY SC Makes History with CITY Unified, Its First Official Special Olympics Team

ST. LOUIS, Missouri (July 7, 2026). — St. Louis CITY SC continues expanding its commitment to inclusion and accessibility by officially launching CITY Unified, the club's first-ever Special Olympics team, created in partnership with Special Olympics Missouri.

The initiative represents another important step toward making soccer truly accessible to everyone by bringing together athletes with and without disabilities to compete, build friendships, and demonstrate that sports have the power to break down barriers.

El programa forma parte de Special Olympics Unified Sports, un modelo deportivo reconocido internacionalmente que integra a personas con y sin discapacidad intelectual en un mismo equipo, promoviendo el respeto, la igualdad, el trabajo en equipo y la construcción de relaciones tanto dentro como fuera de la cancha.

Más que una competencia deportiva, CITY Unified busca fortalecer la inclusión social mediante experiencias compartidas que generan confianza, liderazgo y un profundo sentido de comunidad.

The program is part of Special Olympics Unified Sports, an internationally recognized model that places athletes with and without intellectual disabilities on the same team, promoting respect, equality, teamwork, and meaningful relationships both on and off the field.

More than simply competing, CITY Unified aims to strengthen social inclusion through shared experiences that foster confidence, leadership, and a strong sense of community.

Two members of CITY Unified, Lyla Bieser and Lilian Gerbic, have been selected to represent the club during the 2026 MLS All-Star Unified Sports Game, presented by MLS WORKS and ESPN, in Charlotte as part of MLS All-Star Week.

Their participation highlights the club's commitment to inclusive sports while providing national exposure for the program.

CITY Unified disputará su primer partido oficial frente al equipo Unified de Sporting Kansas City el próximo jueves 16 de julio, como parte de las actividades de la tradicional rivalidad Red Hot Rivalry.

El encuentro se llevará a cabo en el campo de entrenamiento del Washington University Orthopedics High Performance Center, junto a Energizer Park, donde ambos equipos compartirán una jornada enfocada en el deporte, la convivencia y la inclusión.

CITY Unified will play its first official match against Sporting Kansas City Unified on Thursday, July 16, as part of the club's annual Red Hot Rivalry festivities.

The match will take place at the Washington University Orthopedics High Performance Center, adjacent to Energizer Park, where both clubs will celebrate competition, friendship, and inclusion through soccer.
