A Mexican construction worker was seriously injured during an operation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Houston. Miguel Parra Hernandez, 48, suffered multiple leg fractures after a federal vehicle struck him during a pursuit on October 10, according to The Associated Press.

ICE identificó inicialmente al objetivo como José Mendoza-Cervantes, pero la oficina del fiscal del condado de Harris indicó que ese hombre no estaba en el vehículo con Parra Hernández.
The incident has raised new questions about the operation after relatives and immigrant advocacy organizations challenged the identity of the person officers were reportedly trying to apprehend. ICE initially identified the target as Jose Mendoza-Cervantes, but the Harris County District Attorney’s Office said that man was not in the vehicle with Parra Hernandez.

Surveillance footage has also raised questions about ICE’s initial account of how the collision occurred. According to AP, the video shows a black SUV crossing a median and moving toward a fleeing man. However, another vehicle blocks the view of the exact moment of impact.
Parra Hernández permanece hospitalizado y necesita cirugía reconstructiva en el tobillo, de acuerdo con la organización que acompaña a su familia. La fiscalía del condado de Harris está considerando posibles cargos penales contra el agente que conducía el vehículo. ICE no respondió a la solicitud de comentarios de AP sobre las nuevas declaraciones.
Parra Hernandez remains hospitalized and needs reconstructive ankle surgery, according to the organization assisting his family. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office is considering possible criminal charges against the officer who was driving the vehicle. ICE did not respond to AP’s request for comment on the new statements.
