Mientras cada vez más estudiantes recurren a herramientas de inteligencia artificial para hacer tareas, la conversación no debería centrarse en prohibir la tecnología, sino en enseñar a las nuevas generaciones a desarrollar criterio, pensamiento crítico y liderazgo.

As more and more students turn to artificial intelligence tools to complete their schoolwork, the conversation should not focus on banning technology, but rather on teaching new generations to develop sound judgment, critical thinking, and leadership.

La escena se repite cada vez con más frecuencia en miles de hogares. Un padre observa cómo su hijo abre ChatGPT antes de intentar resolver una tarea y lanza la misma pregunta que preocupa a muchas familias: ¿la inteligencia artificial está haciendo que nuestros hijos dejen de pensar?

The scene is becoming increasingly common in thousands of households. A parent watches as their child opens ChatGPT before even attempting to solve an assignment and asks the same question that concerns many families: Is artificial intelligence making our children stop thinking?

Es una inquietud válida. Sin embargo, quizá estamos haciendo la pregunta equivocada. El problema no es que los jóvenes utilicen la inteligencia artificial. El verdadero desafío es entender para qué la están utilizando. Si un estudiante recurre a la IA únicamente para evitar el esfuerzo, copiar respuestas o resolver cada problema, sin involucrar su propio razonamiento, corre el riesgo de desarrollar una peligrosa dependencia tecnológica. Poco a poco, deja de analizar, cuestionar y construir criterio propio.

It is a valid concern. However, perhaps we are asking the wrong question. The problem is not that young people use artificial intelligence. The real challenge is understanding what they are using it for. If a student turns to AI solely to avoid effort, copy answers, or solve every problem without engaging their own reasoning, they run the risk of developing a dangerous technological dependency. Little by little, they may stop analyzing, questioning, and developing their own judgment.

Pero existe otra realidad completamente distinta. Cuando la inteligencia artificial se utiliza como una herramienta para investigar más profundamente, contrastar información, explorar nuevas perspectivas y fortalecer las propias ideas, deja de ser un atajo y se convierte en una ventaja competitiva.

But there is another completely different reality. When artificial intelligence is used as a tool to conduct deeper research, compare information, explore new perspectives, and strengthen one's own ideas, it stops being a shortcut and becomes a competitive advantage.

La diferencia no está en la tecnología, sino en la educación. La IA no reemplaza el pensamiento; lo amplifica. Cada revolución tecnológica ha generado temores similares. Ocurrió con las calculadoras, internet e incluso con los buscadores en línea. En cada caso surgió la preocupación de que las nuevas herramientas reemplazarían habilidades fundamentales.

The difference lies not in the technology, but in education. AI does not replace thinking; it amplifies it. Every technological revolution has generated similar fears. It happened with calculators, the internet, and even online search engines. In each case, concerns arose that new tools would replace fundamental skills.

Sin embargo, la historia demuestra que quienes aprendieron a utilizarlas de forma inteligente obtuvieron mayores oportunidades académicas y profesionales.

However, history shows that those who learned to use these tools intelligently gained greater academic and professional opportunities.

La inteligencia artificial representa un cambio aún más profundo. No basta con enseñar a los estudiantes cómo usar una plataforma, sino a formular mejores preguntas, verificar la información, identificar sesgos, analizar respuestas y tomar decisiones fundamentadas.

Artificial intelligence represents an even more profound change. It is not enough to teach students how to use a platform; they must also learn how to ask better questions, verify information, identify biases, analyze responses, and make informed decisions.

La IA puede responder, pero sigue siendo el ser humano quien debe decidir. Durante décadas, la educación estuvo enfocada en memorizar información. Hoy esa información cabe en un teléfono celular. Lo verdaderamente valioso ya no es recordar datos, sino saber interpretarlos, conectarlos y convertirlos en soluciones.

AI can provide answers, but human beings must still make the decisions. For decades, education focused on memorizing information. Today, that information fits inside a smartphone. What is truly valuable is no longer simply remembering facts, but knowing how to interpret them, connect them, and turn them into solutions.

Las empresas buscan personas capaces de resolver problemas, liderar equipos, adaptarse a los cambios y pensar estratégicamente. Ninguna inteligencia artificial puede reemplazar completamente esas habilidades humanas. Por eso, el objetivo no debería ser alejar a los jóvenes de la tecnología, sino enseñarles a liderarla.

Companies are looking for people who can solve problems, lead teams, adapt to change, and think strategically. No artificial intelligence can completely replace these human abilities. That is why the goal should not be to keep young people away from technology, but to teach them how to lead it.

Cuando un estudiante entiende este proceso, deja de ser un consumidor pasivo de tecnología para convertirse en un estratega capaz de utilizarla con criterio. Ese cambio de mentalidad marcará una enorme diferencia en su futuro profesional. Porque la IA puede generar respuestas, pero el criterio sigue siendo una habilidad exclusivamente humana.

When a student understands this process, they stop being a passive consumer of technology and become a strategist capable of using it with sound judgment. That shift in mindset will make an enormous difference in their professional future. Because AI can generate answers, but judgment remains an exclusively human skill.
