Missouri Raises Speed Limit to 75 MPH on Eligible Rural Highways
El gobernador de Missouri, Mike Kehoe, firmó la Ley del Senado 1408, que permite aumentar el límite máximo de velocidad de 70 a 75 millas por hora en determinadas carreteras rurales de cuatro carriles. La legislación fue promulgada el lunes 13 de julio de 2026 y otorga a la Missouri Highway Commission la facultad de decidir qué vías cumplen con los requisitos para el incremento.
Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe has signed Senate Bill 1408 into law, allowing the maximum speed limit on eligible rural four-lane highways to increase from 70 to 75 miles per hour. The
new law was signed on Monday, July 13, 2026, and gives the Missouri Highway Commission the authority to determine which roadways qualify for the higher speed limit.
La medida podría aplicarse a tramos de las interestatales I-35, I-44, I-55 e I-70, donde el límite máximo de velocidad podrá incrementarse en cinco millas por hora. No obstante, la ley no modifica los límites de velocidad en los tramos urbanos donde ya están establecidos por debajo de las 70 mph.
The change could affect portions of Interstates 35, 44, 55, and 70, where the maximum posted speed may be increased by 5 mph. However, the law does not apply to urban highway segments where speed limits are already below 70 mph.
Los defensores de la medida afirman que el cambio permitirá armonizar los límites de velocidad de Missouri con los de estados vecinos y mejorar la circulación en las carreteras rurales. Cualquier aumento será aplicado únicamente después de que la Comisión de
Carreteras de Missouri evalúe y apruebe cada tramo.
Supporters say the legislation will better align Missouri's speed limits with those of neighboring states and improve travel efficiency on rural highways. Any speed limit increases will be implemented only after review and approval by the Missouri Highway Commission.
La versión original del proyecto también contemplaba eliminar el requisito de las inspecciones de seguridad para vehículos en Missouri. Sin embargo, esa disposición fue eliminada durante el proceso legislativo y no forma parte de la ley finalmente firmada por el gobernador.
The original version of Senate Bill 1408 also included a proposal to eliminate Missouri's vehicle safety inspection requirement. That provision was removed during the legislative process and was not included in the final law signed by the governor.
