Health officials in St. Louis County, Missouri, advised residents to avoid contact with birds after two ducks tested positive for bird flu in Ballwin. According to the county's Department of Public Health, the birds are part of a group of semi-domesticated ducks that live in the Retreat at Seven Trails apartment complex, where geese also often gather.

The department is coordinating with the complex's management to place notices warning residents and visitors to keep their distance from birds and prevent their pets from approaching. Authorities also ask not to feed the animals. Although the risk to the general population is considered low, they recommend taking precautions to reduce the possibility of exposure to the virus.

saliva y secreciones respiratorias.

Avian influenza can be transmitted between birds through direct contact with their droppings, saliva, and respiratory secretions. In humans, symptoms may resemble those of seasonal flu, but may also include eye inflammation, high fever, shortness of breath, pneumonia, and neurological complications. Although pets do not usually pose an elevated risk, they may carry contaminated material on their paws or fur.
